AWARDS:


Young Scientist Awards (Under 35 inclusive) will recognize outstanding papers and posters. To be considered you must submit an abstract, apply for competition, register for the meeting and submit a 3 page summary to worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com.

Young Scientist Award will recognize One (1) outstanding platform and One (1) outstanding poster.  Awardee will receive:

1) Certificate

2) One year WAML Membership

3) Complimentary registration for one of the next two Congress'

 

DAVIES AWARD COMPETITION:


Abstracts pertaining to the following subjects are eligible for the Davies Award Competition. 


  • Ramification of COVID 19 on Public Health Around the World

  • Ethical and Legal Aspects of Medicine in the Age of COVID

  • Right to Equal Health Services and Free Vaccinations Around the World

  • Public Health v. The Right to Autonomy and the Right to Refuse Vaccination

  • Old Age and Gerontology in Welfare States

  • Health Care Management Under Budget Restrictions


About A. Michael Davies:

Professor A. Michael Davies (1924 - 2016), MD. FFPHM., graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, University of Manchester in 1946. In his long career he accomplished to make a contribution not only in the Medical Arena in England, but also in Israel serving as the Chief Epidemiologist in the Israeli Ministry of Health, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Ecology at the Hebrew University, and his many years in the position as Professor of Public Health at the Hebrew University.

In his longstanding career he has been a member of various committees and consultant to divisions of the Israel Ministry of Health including epidemiology, health statistics, mother and child care, preventive services etc. He also served as a temporary advisor and short term consultant to the World Health Organization in Geneva, in expert committees on rheumatic fever and aging, including occasionally functioning as consultant to divisions of MCH, human reproduction, strengthening of health services, AIDS, health of the elderly, health statistics, tropical disease research etc.  

With this award we honor the lifelong contributions of Professor Davies to the field of Medicine and Public Health, and hope to encourage and promote scientific contributions that will be a precedence for further medical advancements.  

Awards:

1st place - 1500 USD

2nd place - 1000 USD

3rd place - 750 USD 

The authors of the winning papers will afterwards be encouraged to send their full paper for consideration in the International Journal of Medicine and Law.​

Participation in the Davies Award Competition:

The World Association for Medical Law encourages both students and professionals to participate in the competition. ​​Abstracts relating to these themes could be considered for the Davies Awards.

By submitting your abstract to the 30th World Congress on Medical Law within the themes of the award you are eligible to participate in the Davies Award Competition. 

In order to be considered for the Davies Award you must do the following:

1. Submit your abstract to the 30th World Congress on Medical Law within the above-mentioned themes.

2. By July 1, 2026 you must submit a 3 pages summary (academic references included) of your proposed paper to the email worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com.

3. By July 1, 2026 you must submit a full paper the email worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com.

The Antwerp Health Law and Ethics Chair (AHLEC):

The Award:

1. AHLEC agrees to fund an annual AHLEC Award for Comparative Health Law to begranted at each WAML Congress, starting with the 2026 Congress in Antwerp.

2. The award consists of:

o A monetary amount of 1,000 EUR;

o Books: freely chosen from the catalogues of:

1. Intersentia, up to a value of €200, and

2. Edward Elgar Publishing, up to a value of £200.

Eligibility and Criteria

1. The AHLEC award will be granted for the best oral or poster presentation in the fieldof comparative health law at to the WAML Congress.

2. The AHLEC award will be presented at an award ceremony during the WAMLcongress.

3. The applicant must apply specifically for the AHLEC award competition, and must submit a summary of max. 3 pages of their paper or poster to worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com and Thierry.Vansweevelt@uantwerpen.be by July 1, 2026.

4. The applicant must attend the award ceremony.

5. Submissions will be judged on scientific quality, originality, and the relevance of thecomparative legal analysis.

6. Everyone can participate, without age limit.

7. If no candidate meets the qualitative requirements, the prize will not be awarded.
